Many people ask, what is quilling? Quilling, also known as paper filigree, is an art form that transforms strips of paper into unique designs. The paper strips are rolled, twisted, looped, and curled, to form shapes and patterns. These shapes can then be glued together in many different ways to create artwork, jewelry, greeting cards and more.
Quilledesigns uses this unique art form to create artwork featuring floral, whimsical and colorful designs. Quilledesigns specializes in flower crown animals, custom floral names, and flower skulls.
The Artist
Meet Julia, the creator of Quilledesigns. Julia is a part-time paper artist, living in New York. She grew up in Vermont with a crafty Mama and two art-loving sisters. She graduated from the University at Albany with a degree in mathematics and a passion for paper crafting.
A few thing Julia loves include: ice cream, running, and spending time with her puppy.
The Business
Julia created Quilledesigns after coming across paper quilling when she was in high school. It all began with some strips of paper, and a lot of mistakes, but soon it became a craft that she developed a deep passion for. Julia started off by entering my framed art and paper jewelry into competition at my local fair.
Julia took a break from quilling while in college and after graduating, but started making art again for friends and family. In the end of 2016, she jumped head first into quilling again and began sharing her designs on Instagram. Now, a website and Etsy shop later, Julia is successfully selling her art part-time and am continuing to grow as an artist and a small business owner.
